COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course introduces nursing students to the philosophical foundation of nursing and the elements of professional practice. It will cover historical, contemporary, socio-political and economic factors influencing nursing and nursing services. The central theme of the course is holism within which concepts of health and wellness, health nursing, caring, empowerment and partnership will be explored at an individual, group and societal level. The course also covers the legal and ethical bases of nursing practice, as well as the legal framework pertaining to the Nursing Council of Trinidad and Tobago.
