- Criminology SOCI315 is part of the curriculum for Criminology and Behavioural Sciences students.
- This course is designed for 3rd year students.
- In this course students will become familiar with how the definition of youth delinquency changes with shifting philosophical and socio-political circumstances with an emphasis on how these circumstances play out in the Caribbean and Western context. Students will critically analyse theories of juvenile delinquency. They will assess the social impact of programs and services implemented to deal with young offenders. This will enable them understand Sociology, Psychology and other related disciplines in Social Sciences.
- Students will benefit from a study of the discipline by gaining greater insight into the causes of delinquency with a view to reducing crime among our youths. It will provide law enforcement agencies with greater understanding of youths and criminal behaviour and alternative options in dealing with criminals. Governmental organisations and institutions will be guided in policy decision making based on knowledge of Juvenile Delinquency.
